What is a Psychoeducational Assessment?

A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive investigation into cognitive skills, attention-related functioning, social and emotional functioning, and academics that helps to form a more clear understanding of a student’s strengths and needs.  This information provides an understanding of the building blocks that will provide necessities for academic success.

The assessment process begins with a conversation to review the process and answer any questions parents or students may have. After gathering background information, the assessment appointment is arranged. Administering the assessment measures usually takes at least one full day beginning at 9:00 am and lasting through approximately 3:30 pm. Following the assessment, the report is prepared and provides details about the student’s strengths, needs, and recommendations to guide academics moving forward.

Referrals more specific to emotional needs, such as anxiety, depression, self harm, or trauma, or requests related to treatment such as counselling are outside of the scope of services that we provide.
